Squad / Training Fees

Training fees are invoiced monthly by the club.
To keep the payment process simple all fee structures are based on an annual amount divided into monthly payments – there is no discount over holiday breaks.

Membership

Raumati Swimming Club – Raptors, is a competitive swimming club. Members will also be registered with Swim NZ and Swim Wellington. There are different membership types depending on the swimmers ability and desire to compete.

Registration runs for one year, July 1st – June 30th and consists of a one-off:

  • annual fee for the Raumati Swimming Club membership
  • annual fee for Swim Wellington membership
  • annual fee to Swim New Zealand.

Our Club fees may be prorated during the year but the Swim Wellington and Swim NZ fees must be paid in full.

The fees for year July 1, 2023 to June 30, 2024 are:

Senior Competitive Swimmer (13 & over)

Swim Wellington $65.50
Raumati Swimming Club $79.50
Total $217.50

Junior Competitive Swimmer (12 & under)

Swimming New Zealand $72.50

Programs Pool swimmers are not required to be pay an annual membership fee.
All other swimmers are categorised based on their squad:

  • Triceratops & Stegosaurus – Recreational (or Club swimmer if previously requested)
  • Pterodactyl – Club swimmer (or Competitive if previously requested)
  • T-rex, Spinosaurus and Velociraptor – Competitive
  • Fitness – Recreational

Parents as supporters

Why should my child be a swimmer?

  • Swimming promotes physical fitness and teaches children to strive for physical achievement.
  • Swimming is an exciting individual as well as team sport.
  • Swimming is a specialised activity involving extensive skill development.
  • Many top athletes started off as swimmers before moving in to other sports.
  • Swimming is a lifetime sport. You can swim from very young to very old.
  • Swimming teaches sportsmanship including dealing with winning and losing, working with teammates officials and coaches.
  • Swimming is fantastic for motivating children to strive for self improvement and goal setting.
  • Swimming related injuries are low.
  • Swimming can prevent drowning.
  • Swimming is a family activity

Parents are expected to help out with the operation of the club; this can range from providing basic support during meets (home and away) through to specific club roles or technical officials. Raptors is a small club and relies on this help.

Uniform

The club uniform is based on the Raptors brand, coupled with the club colours (red, white and navy blue).

Key items of uniform are swim caps, t-shirts and hoodies:

  • swim caps are held/provided by the coaches (you are then invoiced for these by the club).
  • t-shirts, hoodies and other clothing and merchandise are ordered and fulfilled via our Digitees online Shop.

LEARN TO SWIM


Training Objectives:

● Learn the basics of swimming freestyle, backstroke and breaststroke
● Learn Butterfly kick movement
● Complete 50 m of each stroke with excellent technique (except butterfly)
● Introduce racing skills including streamlines, starts and turns for the above strokes


Entry Criteria:

● Be 12 years and under
● Be able to swim 25 m freestyle, backstroke and breaststroke
● Be confident in the water
● Option to be registered as member of Swimming New Zealand


Squad Goals:

● Attend at least one swim session per week (up to three sessions available)
● Arrive five minutes early for training to ensure squad starts on time
● Be positive and enthusiastic towards swimming
● Give 100% in training and when learning new skills
● Participate in club nights

Training Objectives:

● Develop the basics of swimming freestyle, backstroke and breaststroke over an
increased distance
● Introduce full Butterfly stroke
● Complete 100 m of each stroke with excellent technique and 25 m butterfly
● Complete 100 Individual Medley with legal race turns and underwaters
● Introduce aerobic swimming and mini sets
● Introduce racing skills including streamlines, starts and turns for all strokes
● Compete in local race nights and introductory local meets


Entry Criteria:

● Be 13 years and under
● Can competently swim 50 m of each stroke (except for butterfly)
● Be confident in the water
● Option to be registered as member of Swimming New Zealand

● Refine technique across all strokes
● Improve endurance
● Become familiar with racing, pacing and using the clock
● Complete required aerobic sets for all strokes with excellent technique and 50 m butterfly
● Competently and legally swim 100 IM


Entry Criteria:

● Minimum registration as a club swimmer with Swimming New Zealand
● Can competently swim strokes with good technique across 100m
● Can swim 25 m butterfly without stopping
● Can swim 100 FR in under 2.30 with excellent technique and skills


Squad Goals:

● Attend minimum three sessions per week (five sessions available)
● Arrive five minutes early for training to ensure squad starts on time and to get gear sorted
● Be positive and enthusiastic towards swimming
● Give 100% in training and when learning new skills
● Support the team and other swimmers
● Attend club race nights and local junior meets e.g Gold Coast Meets

Training Objectives:

● Swim aerobically with excellent technique across all strokes
● Train and race all strokes and events across 50, 100 and 200 m
● Training focus on technique refinement, IM, increasing fitness
● Introduce dryland warm up, core conditioning


Entry Criteria:

● Registered as a competitive swimmer with Swimming New Zealand
● Can competently swim all four strokes with good technique
● Can swim 6×100 FR @ 2.00, minimum 1.15 pace for BR and BK
● Have a minimum 1 year competition experience
● Be aiming to qualify for regional championships, Junior Festival, DIV II


Squad Goals:

● Minimum attendance 4 sessions per week
● Arrive 5 minutes prior to dryland and pool sessions every day
● Be positive and enthusiastic towards swimming
● Give 100% in training and when learning new skills
● Support the team and other swimmers
● Attend club race nights, local meets and regional championships

● Be a role model within the club for younger athletes
